Have you ever received a gift that, perhaps at first sight, you did not welcome? Later, with time, you realized how special it was and how thoughtful it was of those who gave it to you.
I remember when I was growing up that my family did not have many toys. We did have a wooden horse, and it was the best toy I had received. My imagination ran wild with that toy. It brought me so much joy and peace.
Many times, if we aren’t careful, we can have an ungrateful heart towards the best gift we could ever receive—the love of the Potter.
It was the love of the Potter for the entire world which made Him give “…his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Let’s look at what the Bible says about this love in Romans 3:23. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
We have all, with no exceptions, sinned and fallen short, but the Lord gives us eternal life. Paul goes on to say in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
We have been given such a precious and valuable gift from the Potter. I was not one who welcomed this gift of salvation the first time it was offered to me. I was blind. To be honest, I did not see the value in it. I was like many who are still blind, broken, and confused today. Sadly, some feel that if they don’t see an immediate increase or benefit in their lives, they don’t want this priceless gift.
I thank the Lord that with time, He has allowed me to see the immeasurable significance in being called a child of God. What a love! Words truly fall short to express it. John put it this way, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…” (1 John 3:1).
I pray we can help others see the value of this indescribable gift which is given to us freely. I pray that during this month in which we focus on showing love to one another in the United States, we do the same and show the Lord how much we love Him and appreciate His sacrifice.
Church, there is only one way to show this kind of love, and it is by obedience.
“10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:10, 11).
I pray that your obedience will bring joy not only this month, but each and every day of the year as you continue in the Potter’s hands.
